Things To Consider In Expanding Kitchen

Having an outdoor kitchen is quite common in old houses or traditional homes in some countries in Asia like Philippines.

It is often referred to as a “dirty” kitchen primarily because it is located outdoors and it doesn’t usually have the clean and polished look of indoor kitchens.  They are often used to cook dishes that have lingering odor like fish and other sea food, garlic, onions, and others.

Expanding the cooking area to the outdoors is quite simple as it only requires a few installations.

The first requirement is to set-up a small structure for the kitchen.  This can be a small open area beside the house with an awning or roof wherein the kitchen elements can be placed. The basic elements of an outdoor kitchen include a counter top, sink, and stove or grill. The concrete countertops are great for outdoor kitchens as they are sturdy and easier to maintain. Stainless steel sinks are popular for outdoor use, while grills are preferred over stoves in this type of setting.

Additional appliances like outdoor refs or freezers may also be installed in “dirty” kitchens depending on how often homeowners entertain their guests outdoors.

These kitchens make it easy for homeowners to host barbecues and ensure efficient kitchen maintenance as it lessens the traffic in and out of the house, minimizes spills or food accidents, eliminate strong food odors and allow easy clean up.

Installing an outdoor kitchen may require a small investment but the rewards are certainly worth reaping.
