Support National Book Store’s Advocacy: Join the Read Out Loud Challenge
Everyone loves reading books, magazines, newspapers and other materials which somehow educate and entertain readers.
Nothing beats the feeling of finishing a thick page-hardbound or softbound book and then keep it to your bookshelf for future reading again. It would be more exciting that once done with a book, something might have changed in your points of view.
While there may be thousands of books published out there, some just stick with us and are worth sharing with the rest of the world.
Through the years, there is one bookstore that have been part of many lives of Filipinos – the National Book Store (NBS), which is now celebrating its 75 years of creating a growing nation of readers and being a strong advocate for education.
As part of the festivities, NBS recently launched the Read Out Loud Challenge (ROLC) on Facebook and Instagram, aiming to promote the love of reading among Filipinos while supporting a good cause.
The Challenge
The mechanics for Read Out Loud Challenge doesn’t require c0mplicated steps to enjoy the fun.
Simply do the following:
1. Post a video of yourself reading out loud an excerpt from your favorite book.
2. Before you end your video, challenge three (3) other people to do it.
3. Upload the video either on Facebook or Instagram.
4. Add the hashtag #ReadOutLoudChallenge, then tag National Book Store (@nbsalert).
For every 75 videos posted, the NBS Foundation will set up a library in a public school, complete with Project Aklat racks that consists of DepEd-approved books. Project Aklat is an initiative started in 2006 by the NBS Foundation, and 400 libraries have been set up since then.
NBS aims to set up 100 libraries nationwide with its ongoing ROLC campaign. Leading this worthy cause is the founder of NBS and an advocate of literacy, Mrs. Socorro Ramos or Nanay Coring.
Project Aral
The NBS Foundation also launched the 8th year of Project Aral in all the book store’s branches nationwide. The project aims to visit and help over 150 communities which lack basic school necessities.
Two different kits were introduced in this year’s Project Aral: The first kit which costs P25 contains 2 notebooks, 2 pencils, a sharpener, and eraser. The second kit costs P50 and contains 2 notebooks, 2 pencils, a sharpener, an eraser, and a pair of slippers – a great gift for children who currently have to make their way to school barefoot.
